PHOTOGRAPHY
About the course
This course provides an introduction to the theory, practice and history of photography, with emphasis on the production of digital images. I learned the basic principles of digital cameras and digital printing and how to use them in the context of the visual language of photography. This is a hands-on studio art course, which provided me with the necessary tools to understand the conceptual, visual and historical aspects of photography through lectures, slide presentations and discussions.

I decided to take a surrealistic approach to these pieces. I took everyday, mundane tasks and turned them into something a bit stranger. However, I refrained from pushing the ideas too far so as to allow the mind to still understand what was being captured without totally distancing itself from connecting to it. I like to think of the actions being captured as something obviously odd to our world but a plausible possibility in another.

This series is all about my experience with sleep paralysis. The scene portrayed is a recollection of the first time I had every experienced sleep paralysis and saw a "sleep paralysis demon." The series of images are chronological to how the event occurred. It shows both the side of how this event was perceived by me and also how it would look to an outsider looking on, unaware of my internal struggle.

I took a more light hearted approach for this collection of images. I looked at how vibrant light and reflection could play with objects as simple as the food we see and consume everyday. I really enjoyed the process of making this series. I loved how vibrant the colors came out and how they affected the look of the food.
